PIT STOP: S20 Datsun 510 By, Del AKA 508Boricua

Heres a 510 that was built by MS forum member 508Boricua, Del. It's based of the Hasegawa SSS 4 door version. The kit doesn't come with an engine or engine bay details at all. It didn't stop Del from slapping in a S20 from a Hakosuka. A tight squeeze, but with some elbow grease and some scratchbuilding skills, it looks right at home. The paint job give it a bit of a new school look while the cross bar style wheels take it back to the old school ways.

I MOTORIZED IT WITH A INLINE S20 FROM A KPGC10 SKYLINE.
AS YOU CAN SEE IT WAS A TIGHT FIT. I SCRATCHED BUILT
PARTS LIKE THE CLUTCH PUMP, MSD, WINK MIRROR AND
ENGINE BAY. WHEELS I BOUGHT AT A LOCAL MODEL SHOW
FOR A BUCK. THIS WAS A FUN BUILD. HOPE YOU GUYS LIKE IT.

Projects, Projects, Projects!!

PROJECTS! Everyone has them, not many want to finish them. I for one have several projects that I wish to finish. Will I ever? Do I really want to?? Well at some point yes and of course I do.....I think.

For me, the WIP is what I like most. Making parts, customizing parts from other cars to fit, painting, adding that extra detail is what makes me want to build. If I told you how many projects I have going, you would probably think Im either lazy or crazy...

Here are a couple of projects and future features of a few fellow builders currently have going.

Karl has a Tamiya Skyline R33. He is has decided to toss an engine into it and has added some sweet details

Victor has been working on a Tamiya Honda S200. He too decided to toss an engine into it and some great progress as well.

Last one, not really...Jorge. He has a Revell Datsun 510. He is slapping a Honda F20c engine into his. Talk about a go-kart with balls...

The End: OS GIKEN 510

So, what do you get when you toss in an idea and sit on it?? 2 years of hard work, thats what. yup, today marks the 2 year anniversary of when i re-started this little sucker. When I first bought this kit, i didn't think it would take me this long to finish it. I bought it when it was released under the "tuner series" from Revell in 2002. at the time i had tried to fit some fujimi 15" watanabe's, i hacked away at the wheel arches to make them fit. oh man did that look stupid. so i put it away in a box. there it stayed with out an idea that it would end up like this.

I can honestly thank Jimmy aka Fujimmy. if it was not for him on making and casting the resin OS Giken TC-16 engine, this would probably still be in a box. i had thought about leaving the box stock engine, but that didn't really fuel the fire. i rebuilt the front and rear wheels wells on the chassis, modified the strut set up and went from there. this one has the most scratchbuilt parts i have ever done and several other "first timers". like the body weathering or using alclad paints. all i can really say is that im happy to have finished this even though the building part is the part i enjoyed the most.

Suspension: super low shakotan style
Scratchbuilt parts: Header, exhaust, strut arms, roll cage add ons, wheel wells, rear sway bar, water resovoier, oil filter relocation, seat belts/harness, wink mirror, induction tube, MSD 6al box, MSD ignition coil, fuel line and pump
Kit bashed parts: head lights are fog lights, outside mirrors are from an impala kit, rear under wing is from an R32 kit, ae86 roll cage main hoop, nascar gauge board, R32 front and rear brakes, ae86 modified radiator,  oil cooler from aoshima kai parts.

This is was 10 years in the making.

The End Is Near: O.S. 510

Yes I mean it this time. As I told Raees, this is the week for the end of this long journey. I have made a new harness for the drivers side and a lap belt for the passenger. I used some thin bandage tape for the belt material and the buckles are P.E. parts from Detail Master. It's suppose to be a 5 point cam type set, but the belt material supplied seemed to be pretty old. It looks like masking tape, but on backing paper. When I tried to take the tape off it ripped or was stuck really good to the backing paper, utterly useless. Anyway, it didn't look anywhere near to what a harness or even a lap belt would look like in a real car. I used a black sharpie to "dye" the tape. It actually took me a couple of hours to make these, but it's well worth it in the end. There are a few details that I have left and then I can finally call this one done.

Builder Spotlight: Raees Amien

After some thinking and wondering, I have came to the conclusion that I have not done a "Spotlight" on Raees. Sure I have featured many of his wonderful builds and have even done a small intro about him, but I have yet to do an actual "Spotlight", well here it is.

Raees hails all the way from Cape Town, South Africa, that is almost 10,000 miles away from Cali, where I live. He has been at the mercy of styrene since the tender age of 8 and has built some great looking models since. He also likes taking long walks by the beach and listening to jazz....ummm nah not really, but he sure loves to put in time on all his builds. Some taking a couple of weeks, with long hours to others that have been on stand by for years. We all have that one or several builds that take more time than usual. So what if OCD kicks in, we'll get back to it. Eventually...

The SPC forum, some emails and the occasional Facebook comments are the ways we communicate to share one of the passions that we have in common and that is model car building. His style of building is one that catches my attention in many ways. From digi-carbon fiber camo pattern on the Amuse R35 Skyline or nicely detailed SR20 under the hood of his silver beauty 510 to the slammed trio of VW golfs, the details are eye catching. The attention to detail in each of his builds are amazing. Plenty of time goes into them to get them that way and the patience he has is something that many need to have in order to build any type of model. It's the key to the door of the this hobby, well time and money is another key factor that come into play, but thats another story..haha.

He has been building models not only for himself, but for others as well. I have featured the finished ones on here and he has more to come in near future. Just recently he finished a VW beetle that was featured on the cover of Speed and Sound Magazine out of South Africa. Not only did he build a scale replica of that beetle on there, but there is an article about Raees himself and his builds in that issue. His builds have caught plenty of attention from many and I can see him getting more in the future. The man has skills for what he does. I have seen plenty come into the hobby only to leave it behind, I can say that Raees is here to stay. now if we can only get ourselfs to finish those unfinished WIP's...
