Pit Stop: The Black Pearl, More Than Just A Myth...

DAYUM, is just one word that I can come up with after looking at David Zin's black RX7, FD3S. This one does not rock your typical fire spitting boosted Rotary, NO this packs a kick and a donkey punch to the dome. Dave is from Triangle, Virginia and I have come to wonder what do they put in the water over there??. This Tamiya RX7 kit was originally used for it's already potent rotary on another project. Now it rocks an angry looking supercharged LS9 from the Revell Corvette kit. The hoodless beast spits it flames through a Y'ed exhaust piping out of a "lobster tail" stlye tiped muffler. It rolls on my favorite set of shoes, The Kranze LXZ wrapped in some lo-pro Pegasus tires that were modded to his likings. The metallic black paint on the body and faces of the wheels combined with dark gray lips give it the menacing look of a ship ready to take on anything that comes looking for trouble.

"honestly i have no idea how much time was spend in it's construction. it was just one of those projects that you just have fun building and the time just passes. inspiration came from a red hoodless RX-7 with a Supra engine swap and a white slammed and cambered RX-7 from Japan that i saw online. the name "the Black Pearl" came from my interest in pirate stuff and the "Pirates of the Carribean" movies."

Enter The Lions Den: Victor's J's Racing S2000 AKA "Lion Heart"

Today I bring you another S2000 built by member Victor AKA Backyardinc on the forums. This time around he has built a J's Racing inspired version. This one is partaking in a contest on the Model Scientists forum. The contest is called "StanceWars". Pretty much the name says it all.

Victor has taken another Tamiya Honda S2K and has made a masterpiece, artwork in static motion...haha if that makes sense.. There is a long list of many scratchbuilt parts on this one. The J's Racing front bumper and fenders are just one of the many that stand out. OEM strakes and rear fender flares add to the already aggressive front bumper. Underneath the open hood lyes the heart of this lion, an LS2 out of a Corvette. It looks as if it belongs in there. A wild zebra pattern adorns the engine bay along with some Samco style radiator hoses. The brake master and clutch master cylinders and booster are extra details as well. Lets take a peek at the interior, Mugen style roll cage-check, kevlar bucket seats-check, oh look a skateboard for cruising around. Take a closer look and you'll see a Go-pro camera and a carbon kevlar Password JDM center consol. Honestly, I can go on forever on the attention to detail, but I'm not. I'll let the pictures and the details list do all the talking from here.

"This tamiya Honda S2000 was built for a contest , called "stancewars" , ends in a few days on june 30 , 2012 . This WAS A GREAT CHALLENGE , not only to build something that can have a chance of winning , but to do so much scratch building , finding parts , paint process , in 4 months time , for me , that was insane . How To Build A DRAGON: By Karl B.

As of tomorrow, it will be a whole month since I have been on here. I am here today to bring you another bad ass skyline build. This time around it's an R33 Skyline built by Karl Briffak. Karl has out done himself this time with this beast of a Skyline. Here, I'll formally introduce you to "The RED Dragon"

Karl took the Tamiya skyline and released it's inner beast by cutting open the hood and slapping an RB26 engine from the Tamiya R32 kit. Why Tamiya didn't do this to the R33 and R34 is quit odd, but when you see somone take the time to scratchbuild an engine bay for one of these all you can do is appreciate the beauty. There are plenty of scratchbuilt and modified parts along with a small list of aftermarket support to bring it to life. The side skirts and front lip are all cusom made and wrapped in carbon decal along with the B-pilar and OEM wing. Tucked under the wheel arches are a set of NISMO LM-GT wheels wrapped in Bridgestone tires. Behind those wheels lye some slotted rotors with OEM Nissan 4 piston front calipers and 2 piston rear calipers, enough to bring this beast to a stop. Pop open the hood and you'll see a very clean RB26 with a single turbo chillin on it's side. Just about everything you see under the hood is scratchbuilt. Although you can see it, the interior recieved the same treatment. It is nicely detaild with harness bars, race harness and a pair of Bride seats. As for the paint job, DO I really need to say anything??? simply beautiful.

"RED SKIES" The O.G. Godzilla By: Chris L.

Today I bring what I like to call "RED SKIES" It's the original GODZILLA of the skyline world. The R32 for many of us here in CALI can only wish to own a Skyline(legal maters and money get in the way), no less an R32. It just screams kick ass! Chris Lomenda is not only the builder of this masterpiece, but also owns a real as in life size R32 Skyline which he hopes one day to look as good as it's scaled counterpart. This R32 is based of Tamiya's take on this beast. It comes with an engine that is tastefully done in stock trim. The drive train and suspension set up is one of the best detailed out there. The interior is a bit on the bland side and there might be some other bits that some might not like out of the box.

But thank god Chris likes to think out of the box when it comes to his builds. Not only did he go the extra mile, he went a few dozen extra miles to get this beauty where it's at today. He modified the engine to hold a single turbo big enough to swallow baby birds, fuel rail, fuel pressure regulator, oil filter relocation kit and some braided lines. The intake filter is scratch built along with a plethora of goodies like the brake lines that run along the firewall, the aluminum radiator exhaust system, charge pipes, and the monstrous intercooler chillin behind the front bumper. For wheels, Chris went with a set of Work Meister S1's from Model scientists which he modified to be able to paint the centers the gold color and added chrome lip that you see. The interior itself is a piece of art alone, with original seats being left in, he also added some racing harness belts, roll cage, flocking for carpet and some floor mats which he made himself. Opening doors on any scaled size kit is a skill that can be added to a resume. It takes time and patience to get it right. If the doors do not align or open up smoothly, then your F&%K3D. Not so in this case, hell it even has the door hooks for them to close properly. The door jambs are properly done and the "stock" Tamiya door cars were modded to add some detail and depth to the interior. It's a detail that should not be forgotten if you were to do that to this kit or any kit for that matter.

I can go on and on about this R32, but I would much rather just show you instead.

Backyard Hustler: Victor's S2K

Victor R. AKA: Backyardinc on the MS forum is one big time Honda Enthusiast. He has several scaled Hondas in his mini stable and it's growing. His latest build is a Sheepy inspired S2000. If you haven't heard of Alex "Sheepy" Soto, then hit the Gooogle, Yahoo, or what ever search engine you use. He will pop up. Even though I'm not a Honda guy, but I am a SO CAL native and have heard of Alex....Anyways, we are here to see the 1/24 version of this crazy boosted set up and a clean style that truly rolls around the streets to dominate.

Victor started out with your basic Tamiya curbside kit and turned it into this piece of art. By cutting out the hood and scratch building an entire engine bay and details, he got Model Scientists F20C engine kit and slapped it in there. He didn't take the easy route and just build it stock, instead he went out his way and replicated Sheepy's turbo set up. It's quit the unique set up in 1:1 and no less in 1/24. The interior is really clean, it sports a CUSCO style roll bar and the rest is pretty much factory trim. With a killer stance you need the proper shoes. Rolling stock are a set of BBS  that come really close to the CCW wheels on the 1:1 are coated in the same matt black as well. The paint job is really clean and is a factory matched to the S2K using Duplicolor Perfect Match paints. There is plenty I can say about this build, but instead I'll let Victors pics do the talking.

IT'S FINALLY HERE , my s2000 is done . didnt take to long on this build which is a good thing lol . I was undecided on the route to take . i know i wanted to put an f20c in it fo sho . I saw sheepeys s2000 and i bought some rims that look like CCW's , so i went that route to replicate his s2000 , mainly i wanted to replicate his turbo setup .... he has the AP2 version body , while this model car is the AP1 version .. heres a list of some stuff i used or made ;

Projects, Projects, Projects!!

PROJECTS! Everyone has them, not many want to finish them. I for one have several projects that I wish to finish. Will I ever? Do I really want to?? Well at some point yes and of course I do.....I think.

For me, the WIP is what I like most. Making parts, customizing parts from other cars to fit, painting, adding that extra detail is what makes me want to build. If I told you how many projects I have going, you would probably think Im either lazy or crazy...

Here are a couple of projects and future features of a few fellow builders currently have going.

Karl has a Tamiya Skyline R33. He is has decided to toss an engine into it and has added some sweet details

Victor has been working on a Tamiya Honda S200. He too decided to toss an engine into it and some great progress as well.

Last one, not really...Jorge. He has a Revell Datsun 510. He is slapping a Honda F20c engine into his. Talk about a go-kart with balls...

Flushed Civic EA

With the reissue of Tamiya's Honda Civic EA, there has been several great looking builds. This is one of them. SPC forum member Win'th from Thailand has tackled this kit and added some extra flare. He cut open the hood and added a B16 with a snail big enough to swallow a baby bird. He kept the engine bay as clean and simple as possible as it is done on real project cars. Scratchbuilt intake manifold and charge pipes are just a few details that have been added. A rusty hood covers up the beastly little engine while the rest of the body is done up in white and a baby blue front lip spoiler to catch the attention of the front mount intercooler. It's rocking the ever loving BBS RS wheels with some low pro tires and some negative camber to tuck them into the wheel wells. For the interior you can notice that it has some bucket seats and a hatch bar, but thats all you get to see for the interior. Under in the rear suspension you get a peek at some aftermarket control arms and the subtle camber affect.
